Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the closest airport?
Hilo (ITO) on the east side of Big Island of Hawai'i

  • You mention off-grid. What does that mean?
Our facility is not connected to, nor does it rely on, local utilities. We generate our own power through a modern solar array and battery bank. We also harvest rainwater in a 24,000-gallon catchment system that we maintain to the highest standards, supported by our own pump and filtration system. The result is clean, pure water.

  • Since you are off-grid, do you have internet? Me or my guests may need to conduct business while there.
Yes, we have Starlink and it works incredibly well. In fact, Sol Temple was one of the very few first customers in Hawai'i selected as a test run!

  • What happens if it's not sunny, do you every run out of energy and do you have a backup energy supply?
Yes, we have a quiet gas powered generator away from guest cabins and communal spaces in the event there is a failure of the power system.

  • Can I host a plant medicine retreat at Sol Temple?
Yes. We host our own intentional, spiritually rooted, sacramental plant medicine retreats and welcome experienced, responsible practitioners, facilitators, and retreat organizers. As a 508(c)(1)(a) spiritual organization, we invoke our constitutional right to commune with Source through a range of practices, including meditation, breathwork, and sacramental plant medicines.

  • Is there a minimum amount of days I have to book for my own retreat?
We require a minimum of a three day booking. Local practitioners and hosts can inquire about special day-use access.

  • How much does it cost to host y own retreat?
As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to making transformational experiences more accessible. Our rates are generally lower than comparable retreat venues in Hawaiʻi and on the mainland United States. Pricing is based on the duration of your retreat, number of guests, and the level of support required—from full-service packages to accommodations and event space only. Once we understand your vision and needs, we create a tailored quote to support a seamless and profitable retreat experience.

  • How do I book a retreat at Sol Temple?
Reach out to us via the contact form on this website to schedule a Zoom call so we can answer all your questions, or call us directly.

  • Do you prove full services such as chefs, meal prep, local recommendations, ground transformation, etc?
We offer full-service packages designed to make the process seamless for retreat facilitators, allowing them to focus on their guests and curriculum. We also work closely with you to customize affordable options, ensuring a smooth and stress-free event.

  • Is the kitchen vegetarian or are animal product allowed?
The main kitchen is vegetarian. A separate, fully equipped outdoor kitchen is designated for the preparation of all animal meats and products. Eggs and dairy are permitted in the main kitchen, while all other animal products are prepared in the covered outdoor kitchen, which includes a gas range, BBQ, and sink.

  • Do you only host wellness retreat organizers or are you open to other types of retreats?
We welcome a variety of retreat types, including writing, art, and family retreats. Our main guideline is that amplified music not be used in a way that carries to neighboring properties, in respect of our peaceful agricultural and homestead community. Please reach out with any questions.
